Unfortunately, Christian Falk’s update on the rumoured Mo Salah replacement for Liverpool is not promising.
After the Saudi Pro League’s high-profile attempt to acquire the Egyptian player two months prior, clubs from the Middle East may try their luck again in January.
If the 31-year-old does leave, the Reds have been linked to a number of wingers, including Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane, as potential replacements.
Nevertheless, Falk wrote the following in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, reiterating the bad news for Liverpool: Leroy Sané is reportedly being considered by the Reds to replace Mohamed Salah. But according to what I’ve heard, Sané’s family has now made Munich their home and is content there.
“At this point, it seems unlikely that the family would move to Liverpool; they would probably be more drawn to the cities of London, Madrid, and Barcelona. But right now, staying on at FC Bayern seems like the most sensible course of action.”
Given that Falk is among the most trustworthy sources when it comes to German football, Liverpool will likely have a difficult time luring Sane away from Munich, particularly if the 27-year-old’s family has made their home there.
Fortunately, it seems that the Anfield management is keeping an open mind about Salah’s possible successor, considering players like Nico Williams, Jarrod Bowen, and Nico Gonzalez.
Of course, the best case scenario is that Salah stays put and the Reds don’t need to sign a right-sided attacker who has the ability to develop into an Egyptian-like player.
But given the calibre of players the Saudi Pro League has drawn in this season, Liverpool ought to be ready for the 31-year-old’s departure at the very least and make sure they don’t approve his departure until they are positive they have a replacement in place.
Sane doesn’t appear to be that player, so Anfield management will need to continue searching for the ideal replacement to fill a huge hole.
