After a hand injury, when will Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford return?
The Los Angeles Rams want to avoid having to place their starting quarterback on injured reserve if they hope to duplicate their 2022 campaign. There was some positive news regarding Matthew Stafford’s hand injury on Wednesday, and Rams head coach Sean McVay is still optimistic that the team won’t have to miss even a single game without him starting at quarterback: Stafford will not be placed on inactive reserve, according to the head coach, and there’s a chance he might play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Considering that McVay stated on Sunday that the injury didn’t appear to be serious and on Monday that IR was a possibility, that is essentially the greatest news that can be given.
Due to multiple ailments, Stafford missed half of 2022 and half of 2019 due to back problems. The Rams quarterback actually suffered multiple injuries during their game against the Dallas Cowboys, but Brett Rypien eventually took over for him after he hurt his thumb during a two-point conversion reception.
Stafford’s four games on injured reserve would virtually kill the Rams’ 2023 campaign. Rather, Stafford is battling for every bit of playing time Los Angeles can extract from him, and should he be able to play this week, he will also get the next week off to recover before the next game.
