Diogo Jota gave a moving homage to Luis Diaz, who thanked his teammates, after the Colombian missed the game since his parents were abducted in their native country.
After Luis Diaz scored a goal against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, his Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota expressed encouragement for the Colombian. Diaz has answered.
The Colombian forward’s parents were kidnapped on Saturday night; while his mother is now safe, authorities in that South American nation are still looking for his father. On Sunday, Diaz was absent from Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
After Jota scored the game’s first goal, he sprinted to the sidelines to take Diaz’s jersey off and hold it up. After Liverpool posted the photo to social media, Diaz replied with an emoji of a lifted hand and a heart.
According to a club statement, Liverpool will keep up its support for Diaz: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving Luis Diaz’s family in Colombia.
“We really hope that everything can be handled safely and as soon as possible. The player’s well-being will remain our top focus in the interim.”
With Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah both scoring goals at Anfield, Klopp’s team destroyed Nottingham Forest, and the Reds are eager to get back to their best.
