Following Scotland’s confirmation for a spot in the senior team for Euro 2024, Ben Doak will be targeting a spot in that group next summer.
Spain’s 1-0 victory against Norway assured that they are guaranteed a top-two spot in Group A of qualification, with two games to spare, and the Scots will be travelling to Germany for the championship the following year.
With their spot at Euro 2020 secured through the Nations League, Scotland has qualified for a major tournament via a qualifying group for the first time since 1997.
The following year, Andy Robertson will serve as the captain of Scotland, but there may be other Liverpool players on the team.
Doak made strides in his international career last week when he scored his first goal for Scotland’s U21 team in their 3-1 victory over Hungary by converting from the penalty spot.
The Scotland U21s manager, Scot Gemmill, revealed earlier this month that his country is waiting for the “right moment” to offer the 17-year-old a senior call-up. The young player is making tremendous progress with his nation.
Doak scored against Hungary while Scotland manager Steve Clarke watched from the sidelines, and the teenager will undoubtedly be focused on making the team that travels to Germany.
For the Reds, Doak has already made eight first-team appearances and has proven that he can be trusted at the top level.
Although he most frequently plays as a right winger for Jurgen Klopp’s team, he recently played as a centre forward for his country at the under-21 level.
If Robertson makes the flight after serving as the captain of his nation at the postponed Euro 2020 event two years ago, he will lead Doak in Germany, fitness permitting.
In Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Spain, the left-back dislocated his shoulder; the extent of the damage is yet unknown.
After Scotland made it to back-to-back tournaments for the first time in 26 years, he will be hoping Doak joins him the following summer.
When given the chance, the teenager has excelled for both club and country, and he appears to be on track to be selected for the Euros.
