According to a rumour on Saturday night, Liverpool is prepared to replace Mohamed Salah by turning to Leroy Sane of Bayern Munich and Germany.

Leroy Sane, a standout for Bayern Munich, has admitted he declined a move to Liverpool.

The gifted forward transferred from Bundesliga side Schalke 04 to the Premier League in 2016 for an unknown sum. He made the switch and joined Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team, where he enjoyed success up until his departure for Munich in 2020.

The Mirror reported on Saturday night that Liverpool was considering a deal for Sane as they prepare for life without Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian’s future has been under great examination as a result of interest from Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League in the summer. On the eve of the transfer deadline day in August, the defending champions of the top-flight in the kingdom submitted a verbal offer of up to £150 million.

Due to the rumours surrounding Salah’s future, a record-breaking Sane transfer by the Reds has been suggested. In light of all of this, it should not be forgotten that the German has already discussed how close to joining Liverpool he was before deciding to join Manchester City.

“Yes, I was also talking with them. Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City,” Sane told the Guardian in 2018.

“He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there. He’s a good guy, nice guy – honest. He [has] worked well with Liverpool.”

Sane’s current contract at the Allianz Arena has two years left, and rumours claim that he is in discussions about a potential extension in Bavaria.

The ECHO is aware that Liverpool’s pursuit of a player who will be 28 in January would contravene the club’s standard transfer policy.
