The legendary Lionel Messi of Argentina has been compared to Liverpool player Alexis MacAllister.
Mac Allister has so far been a reliable but unspectacular addition for the Reds. The 24-year-old is still adjusting to what is expected of him after being asked to play in a relatively unusual No. 6 role.
With his national team, however, it’s a very different scenario, according to GOAL. Mac Allister received a score of 7/10 for his performance in last night’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay and is praised for having some “Messi-esque” moments.
Alexis seems to have assumed some of the duties of the renowned forward as Messi is only healthy enough to sit on the sidelines.
According to reports, Liverpool’s No. 10 ‘totally dazzling’ the edge of the Paraguayan box during one period and was generally ‘amazing’.
Mac Allister is claimed to have been keeping the ball moving along, much as he has been for the Reds. He apparently demonstrated what he had learned while playing a deeper role with some “fantastic tackles.”
It’s fantastic to see Alexis deliver a reminder of just how talented he is after a somewhat difficult return to Brighton last weekend.
‘Dazzling’ reminder from Mac Allister
For his performances at Liverpool over the previous couple of weeks, Mac Allister has begun to receive some minor criticism.
It’s possible that the former Brighton player hasn’t fully ignited his new squad the way everyone anticipated.
However, it is important to keep in mind that the World Cup winner is being asked to perform an unusual position. Although he has occasionally excelled as a holding midfielder for the Reds, that shouldn’t be his long-term role.
We’d prefer to see him placed higher on the pitch so we can witness some of this Messi-like brilliance ourselves.
There is no question about Mac Allister’s ability to execute it. He’ll eventually demonstrate that at Liverpool, too.
However, it is painful to see him currently play a position in which he is neither quite proficient nor wholly fit.
Wataru Endo cannot sit in the midfield for Liverpool if, as appears to be the case, Klopp does not trust him to do so in January. Possibly Andre Trindade? This rendition of Mac Allister must be seen at Anfield!
