Now Liverpool has a midfielder who can compete with Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City.
Transfermarkt, a company that specialises in valuation and the transfer market. Dominik Szoboszlai, the eighth-ranked player for the Reds, is rated as having the same value as Man City’s star Belgian in their most recent update of player valuations from around the world.
Each player is assigned a value of almost £60 million. Szoboszlai’s value has reportedly increased by almost £17 million, and Paul Merson has called him “outstanding” this season [Sportskeeda], whilst De Bruyne’s value has decreased by nearly £9 million since the last update.
In terms of the Premier League as a whole, this places the two players in a tie for 21st place.
Szoboszlai ranks second among Liverpool players on the list, only behind Luis Diaz, who is valued at £65 million. Erling Haaland, the Norwegian hitman who is reported to cost at least £156 million for anyone prepared to try and convince City to sell, is currently comfortably in first place.
Undervaluation of Liverpool players
It can be challenging to pinpoint the exact criteria used to compile these rankings, but they can provide a useful window into how the public perceives Liverpool players.
Several Reds players have occasionally occupied the top ranks in every such rating during the previous three or four years.
Along with the majority of the City team, players like Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Sadio Mane would frequently rank among the highest rated in the league.
However, with Mohamed Salah also – absolutely unbelievable – currently languishing as a £56 million player (excuse me? ), Arsenal has surpassed Liverpool as being thought to have the second-strongest roster.
This is demonstrated by the fact that four Arsenal players are valued higher than Liverpool’s highest-rated player, and one of them, Gabriel Jesus, is valued at the same level as Diaz.
We’re not trying to be ironic, but what makes Salah, Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, and the rest of them more valuable than Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli. What successes do they have in the game?
Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka’s presence is just about understandable given that English tax is still active, but what about the rest? Ignore it. We anticipate that this table might look a little different at the end of the current campaign. Szoboszlai’s worth, like that of many other players on this Liverpool team, is only going one way.
