Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is only 24 years old, has more memorable events in his football career than most.

While still a teenager, the West Derby native made his first team debut for the team where he grew up. Since then, he has developed into one of the top right backs in the world, winning numerous awards under Jurgen Klopp.

At the start of the 2023–24 season, Liverpool’s number 66 was even appointed vice-captain, marking the latest notable achievement in his career.

The right back was asked on the “We are Liverpool” podcast which one moment from his career he would choose to recreate if given the chance.

Alexander-Arnold had plenty of possibilities, from a first Premier League title for the Reds in 30 years to that corner against Barcelona, but in the 87th minute of a game in Madrid one June evening, he ultimately chose a specific goal.

The right back stated, “Part of me thinks definitely the corner and that night.”

“But for me, Divock’s goal in Madrid was hands down the best moment I’ve ever experienced on a pitch.

“Just that sense of knowing you’ve won when it goes in. We’ve had a one-goal lead throughout the entire game, and we’ve been fighting and holding on as the clock ticks down to 85 or whatever.

“And it goes in… at that point, you know, unless they conjure up a complete miracle, it was just that feeling of, ‘We’ve won it.'”

“Never forget how you felt. The very finest feeling I’ve ever experienced on a pitch.”

Alexander-Arnold was also questioned on the day when Klopp selected him vice-captain elsewhere in the podcast.

Before a preseason friendly, the Liverpool boss infamously took the defender aside and broke the news to him, calling the experience “surreal.”

The day before the Leicester game, Alexander-Arnold said, “I just think it’s going to be about the role that I’m playing again, how it’s going to work, and how to use it best against their set-up.

Congratulations, you are the vice-captain of Liverpool Football Club, he simply says before moving on.

“Of course, I want to enter at that point and say things like, thank you and stuff. But he goes on to remark, “We’re going to have a leadership meeting with the rest of the lads,” after which he continues. ‘Nobody knows, don’t tell too many people, but I’ll tell the leadership group tonight,’ he says. Virgil will undoubtedly serve as captain. But good job.

“If you go back and watch the clip, you’ll notice that I often just say, “Yeah, yeah. I’m simply nodding in agreement as he tells me not to tell too many people, nobody knows, we’ll make an announcement tomorrow, and other such things as he continues.

“It was a surreal moment, a proud moment.”
