Alexis Mac Allister could potentially face disciplinary action from the FA due to his remarks about the referee following Liverpool’s defeat at Tottenham.
Liverpool experienced their first league loss of the season in a dramatic match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday.
The defeat was particularly heartbreaking as Joel Matip inadvertently scored an own goal in the final moments of stoppage time, handing Spurs a victory, while Liverpool had only nine players on the pitch due to red cards.
Curtis Jones received a red card after a contentious VAR review, and Diogo Jota, who came on in the second half, was cautioned twice, resulting in his expulsion. Liverpool supporters believe a Tottenham Hotspur player should have also been sent off, believing that match referee Simon Hooper made a mistake.
In their upcoming league match, Jurgen Klopp’s team will have to do without Jones and Jota due to suspensions, and there’s a possibility that Mac Allister may also be unavailable.
Argentine midfielder Mac Allister expressed his frustration with Hooper’s decisions on social media. He commented on Cristian Romero’s celebratory post, saying, “It’s expected when you’re playing against 12 players.”
Mac Allister might face potential charges from the FA for questioning the match referee’s integrity.
Liverpool could also be subject to a potential FA investigation following their loss to Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp’s team is set to resume play on Thursday with a Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise, followed by their upcoming league clash against Brighton on Sunday.
