Curtis Jones has been a consistent member of Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup so far this season, despite Liverpool signing four midfielders during the summer transfer window.
He made his third consecutive Premier League start against West Ham on Sunday, and several of his teammates were extremely pleased with how well he played.
Following the outcome, the 22-year-old expressed his happiness on Instagram by writing: “Proper team performance that one! “+3 at home, we continue!”
Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch both used fire emojis in their subsequent comments on that post, and Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his gratitude for Jones by using a heart emoji.
It is not surprising that the midfielder was receiving praise from several of his teammates after the West Ham match.
Sofascore reports that on Sunday, he won four more tackles than any other Liverpool player and, barring late substitute Wataru Endo, had the team’s highest passing success rate, completing 49 of 51 passes (96% accuracy).
Additionally, he completed one dribble, won seven duels, and was unlucky to have a spectacular finish disallowed just before halftime because he strayed just slightly offside.
Jones was the focus of an article by James Pearce for The Athletic on Monday where he was praised for his efforts since the start of the season. The 22-year-old undoubtedly had a significant impact on Sunday’s victory over West Ham.
Local players making significant contributions to the Liverpool first team through the academy ranks are always exciting to watch, and the Toxteth native is deserving of all the recent praise.
