Alexis Mac Allister has disclosed that his Liverpool teammates make fun of him for being Jurgen Klopp’s’son’.
Following his £35 million summer transfer from Brighton, the Reds’ new number 10 has started all five Premier League games so far in 2023–24 and is an established performer under Klopp.
The World Cup winner has had a rocky start to life at Liverpool despite clearly having Klopp’s faith. He was sent off in the victory against Bournemouth (the suspension was later overturned) and replaced at halftime of the Reds’ most recent match against Wolves.
Apart from his teething issues, Mac Allister seems to be a key component of what Klopp refers to as “Liverpool Reloaded,” and the Argentine star even referred to their friendship as “perfect.”
“A lot of my teammates make fun of me because they claim that Klopp is now my father. He is very charming and always wants to get close to the players, so our connection with him is fantastic,” Mac Allister told La Nacion.
You can’t stop giggling when he has insane moments like you may see in a video game. It makes me happy to be able to work with him.
Mac Allister also disclosed that despite being selected to start against Wolves last Saturday despite his international heroics in South America just a few days before, his Liverpool colleagues only started taunting him after that point.
“I was the only South American to start the last game we played with the national team; Ali did too, but he hadn’t played in Brazil,” he said. Darwin and Lucho Diaz were sitting on the bench.
They drove me mad by telling me that he is my dad, that he is unable to take me out, and that I had exhausted all the games.
Beyond the joke, he is a person I greatly admire, and I hope that he keeps acting this way so that I may keep picking up tips from him on the field.
