Two of the most iconic players in University of Alabama football history are giving back in a major way. Former All-Americans and longtime NFL stars Julio Jones and Mark Ingram II announced Friday the creation of the “Legends Fund,” a new initiative designed to support current and former Alabama student-athletes through education, wellness, and career development opportunities. The announcement was made jointly by the former Crimson Tide standouts in a statement released from Tuscaloosa.

The Legends Fund will focus on providing financial assistance for scholarships, mental health resources, and post-football career preparation, with a strong emphasis on helping athletes navigate life after the game. Jones and Ingram, both first-round NFL draft picks and national champions at Alabama, said the fund is rooted in their shared belief that success should be measured not only by wins and trophies, but by long-term impact on people’s lives.
“This place gave us everything — structure, opportunity, brotherhood, and a platform,” Jones said. “The Legends Fund is our way of making sure today’s players and those who came before them have the tools to succeed long after the lights go out on game day.” Ingram echoed the sentiment, noting that many athletes face challenges once their playing careers end, challenges he believes can be eased with the right support systems in place.
According to organizers, the fund will partner closely with the University of Alabama, former players’ associations, and community organizations to identify areas of greatest need. Planned initiatives include internship pipelines with corporate partners, emergency financial grants, leadership workshops, and expanded access to counseling and wellness programs for athletes transitioning out of competitive football.
University officials praised the move, calling it a landmark moment in the program’s history. “Julio Jones and Mark Ingram II embody what it means to be a Crimson Tide legend,” a university spokesperson said. “Their commitment to giving back sets a powerful example for current players and reinforces the values that define Alabama football.”
Jones and Ingram emphasized that this is only the beginning. Both players plan to remain actively involved in mentoring athletes and growing the Legends Fund through future fundraising events and partnerships. “Our legacy isn’t just what we did on the field,” Ingram said. “It’s what we build for the next generation. That’s what being a legend is really about.”
