Texas A&M University will officially part ways with head coach Mike Elko this weekend, immediately following the conclusion of the regular season.

The Aggies are currently 10-2, ranked No. 12 in the College Football Playoff, and just locked up their first 10-win regular season since 2012. They are also one win away from the SEC Championship Game.
Sources inside the athletic department confirm the decision was made late Wednesday night after a closed-door meeting with boosters, where the primary concern was described as: “Mike has done too good of a job, too quickly. We’re not emotionally prepared for sustained success.”
Athletic director Trev Alberts addressed reporters at 3:17 a.m. outside Kyle Field, visibly shaken:
“We love Mike. Great coach. Great man. But 10 wins, top-15 recruiting class, sold-out stadiums… this isn’t the Texas A&M way. We thrive on chaos, buyouts, and hope. This level of competence is frankly terrifying. We have to protect the brand.”
Elko, who signed a six-year, $60 million extension just 19 days ago, will receive the full $21.875 million buyout. When asked for comment, he laughed for 47 straight seconds before hanging up.
