TEXAS TECH ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KIRBY HOCUTT ISSUES POWERFUL STATEMENT AFTER FAN INCIDENT AT JONES AT&T STADIUM

Texas Tech University Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt released a strong, nationwide statement today following an incident during the Red Raiders’ recent home game in which a female fan was caught on video directing insulting and derogatory language toward a U.S. military veteran who was being honored on the field.

Hocutt did not mince words:

“The behavior displayed was un-American, disrespectful, and in no way reflective of the values of Texas Tech University or the Red Raider family. We have zero tolerance for actions that disrespect those who have served and sacrificed for our country.”

Texas Tech officials have confirmed that the individual involved has been identified and will be permanently banned from Jones AT&T Stadium and all Texas Tech Athletics events moving forward.

Hocutt continued:

“Our fans are known for their passion and loyalty, but that passion must always be paired with respect, especially toward our veterans and military families. We are proud to honor those who serve at every home game, and we will continue to protect that tradition fiercely.”

The incident occurred during a Salute to Service moment when the veteran was recognized on the field. Multiple videos from fans quickly surfaced, prompting swift action from the athletic department.

Texas Tech has a long-standing tradition of honoring military members at every home game, including pregame flyovers, coin toss participants, and special halftime tributes.
