Eagle Soars: Undrafted Rookie Snubs Steelers, Embraces Philadelphia’s Call to Glory

Never makes it out of Philadelphia is an intriguing talent who was invited to rookie minicamps by the Eagles and Steelers.

Roman Reigns, a WWE star, and Joey Porter Sr., a former Pittsburgh Steeler and Super Bowl hero, each have their own “bloodlines.” Shon Stephens, the younger cousin and nephew of Joey Porter Sr., was drafted by the Black and Gold with the 32nd overall pick one year prior to Porter Jr.’s selection. But he’s not going to the Steelers. He’s moving to the City of Brotherly Love to join the Philadelphia Eagles nest.

The former Ferris State standout was reportedly offered a spot on the preseason 90-man roster, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network. He received an invitation to tryout for the rookie minicamps of the Steelers and Eagles. It transpires that he never arrived in the Steel City.

Some backstory on newly signed Eagles wide receiver prospect Shon Stephens.

It looks like the Eagles cornerback room is fairly well-stocked right now. For his fifth season, Darius Slay is back. After being freed, Avonte Maddox was acquired again. The NFL just tossed Philly a bone by allowing prospect Isaiah Rodgers to return from his earlier suspension.

Shon Stephens, a 180-pound native of Bakersfield, California, stands six feet tall. In his final season with the Bulldogs at Ferris State, he recorded a career-high 25 tackles and eight interceptions in 11 games.

The goal in this case won’t be to make Philly’s 53-man roster. You may have heard. During the most recent NFL Draft, they added Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell. However, Stephens provides them with another young gem to work with.

He clocks in at 4.3 seconds for the 40-yard dash. At Michigan State’s Pro Day, he demonstrated a ten-inch broad jump and a 36.5-inch vertical while racking up 19 repetitions on the bench press. The Steelers expressed interest once more, but as previously indicated, he was never able to leave Philadelphia, the Eagle soars.
