Lloyd Cushenberry was identified by CBS Sports as the Rams’ ideal free agent match.

The Los Angeles Rams’ first big offseason decision of 2024 was the release of center Brian Allen. Removing Allen was a very predictable decision because he never lived up to the $18 million contract that he signed in 2022.

LA’s starting center from Super Bowl LVI will need to be replaced. Should the front office go that path, the Rams may have a good option when they hit free agency.

Jared Dubin of CBS Sports acted as an NFC team’s free agent matchmaker in his article from March 5 and suggested Broncos center Lloyd Cushenberry as the best option to replace Allen.

“L.A. released starting center Brian Allen earlier this offseason, and so has an opening in the middle of the line. Cushenberry is a player on the rise, and with Denver likely to incur a massive dead cap hit by parting with Russell Wilson, there should be an opportunity for another team to swoop in and land him,” per Jared Dubin of CBS Sports

In the 2020 NFL Draft, Denver selected the LSU product with a third-round pick. Since joining the NFL, Cushenberry, 26, has started 57 games, including all 17 that the Broncos played last season. Perhaps the most underappreciated free agency option in the upcoming FA class, he is a young, dependable presence along the offensive line.

The fourth-year athlete will probably be a cap casualty for the Broncos after the Russell Wilson fiasco, which is the best thing for the Rams. A brief message to prospective NFL general managers: do not sign a star to a large contract again before they have played a snap for your team. It’s possible that the player you traded for is not the one you were hoping to acquire. You’ll be alright if you take a cue from those high doofi in the Rocky Mountains.
What did I say? Yes, exactly! The Wilson contract has put Denver in cap hell. Thus, the Rams may benefit from the Broncos’ loss. Cushenberry was ranked 19th on TST’s list of the finest players who would be a good fit for Los Angeles in free agency. Grisak predicted that the LSU product might sign a four-year contract worth $57.1 million, which seems to be in line with the predictions of other analysts.
As a player, Cushenberry has a lot of upside. After a dismal 2022 year, he might be the ideal addition to an offensive line that showed more consistency on the field. For the duration of his NFL career, Cushenberry has been a good but underappreciated player.
The NFL’s elite will continue to rise in LA if someone like Lloyd Cushenberry is added. Cushenberry would finally receive the attention he so well deserves in Hollywood.
