While there was some good action on the field during Sunday’s New York Mets vs. Houston Astros game, the majority of attention was focused on something that happened in the stands.

The Mets were behind 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning when the SportsNet New York broadcast switched to live footage of two young boys fighting in the outfield. Rather than concentrating on Astros first baseman Jon Singleton’s batting opportunity against Mets righty Cole Sulser, Ron Darling, Steve Gelbs, and Keith Hernandez chose to provide a play-by-play analysis of the brothers’ altercation.

“This is perfect weather if you’re a kid – it’s hot, it’s raining, it’s gonna get muddy at some point,” Darling stated. “Little brother is giving the big brother all he can handle.”

Though it’s possible that Darling cursed the younger brother because the next time the fight was shown on television, the elder brother caught him off guard and pushed him to the ground. With a high kick, the younger brother attempted to exact revenge, but the older brother caught his leg and knocked him down once more.

The move stunned the three-man crew, who laughed and told the younger brother to give up.

As she later acknowledged on social media, Linzy Singleton, whose husband was up at bat during the altercation, didn’t mind that the kids diverted attention from the actual game.

Awful Announcing claims that the broadcast showed the fight between the brothers coming to an end a few minutes later. The two boys were laughing and trying to continue the fight when their mother intervened to break it up.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, rain forced the Mets and Astros game to be canceled. With the 5-2 win, Houston’s record in Grapefruit League play is now 6-4.
