Superstar LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers now holds the record for most points scored in the NBA, but when will he score 40,000?

There are no further individual honors or achievements for LeBron James to collect. The superstar player for the Los Angeles Lakers is regarded as one of the best two players of all time. He has four titles under his belt from three separate teams, and he became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer last season.

It’s safe to say that James is far more focused in helping the Lakers move up the standings from 10th going into the postseason than flaming his already impeachable personal resume, especially after a surprising run to the 2023 Western Conference Finals. That fact, however, won’t deter Vegas from taking advantage of basketball’s infatuation with round numbers, as evidenced by the betting lines for James to score 40 000 points in his career.

James has scored 39,926 points heading into his matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. Against the Lakers’ cross-arena rivals, The King will not score his 40,000th point, barring the best-scoring performance of his career.

FanDuel Sportsbook has set odds of +4500 for James to cross that level against the Washington Wizards on Thursday, +195 for him to do it against the Denver Nuggets on March 2, and +125 for him to do so against the Oklahoma City Thunder two days later. The odds for Los Angeles’ game against the Sacramento Kings on March 6th are +320, while the team’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 8th is +1100.

James appears to have the best chance of scoring 40,000 points in the Thunder game. Although James has a history of performing at his best in pivotal moments and is averaging 25 points per game this season, it wouldn’t be shocking if he missed the second leg of the Lakers’ back-to-back on Thursday against Washington.

It will take LeBron James 74 points to reach 40,000. That’s something he can do in three games, no problem? If he doesn’t against the Thunder, it’s probably because 48 hours prior, James made that round-number history against Nikola Jokic and the reigning champions, which was essentially meaningless.
