LeBron James (left ankle peroneal tendinopathy), Anthony Davis (bilateral Achilles tendinopathy), and Cam Reddish (right ankle sprain) are designated as doubtful for the Los Angeles Lakers’ Wednesday night game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Due to their individual ailments, Christian Wood, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent are still sidelined.
After missing the Lakers’ first game back due to ankle surgery over All-Star Weekend, LeBron has participated in the last two games. Since his comeback, he hasn’t missed a beat. On Sunday against the Phoenix Suns, he even occasionally assumed the role of Kevin Durant’s defense.
Davis, who has been suffering with hip and groin injuries for the past few weeks, hasn’t missed a game since the team returned from the All-Star break. Despite missing practice on Tuesday due to a respiratory virus, he hasn’t stopped suiting up as of late, so he should be able to play against the Clippers.
Reddish has missed the last 14 games for the Lakers due to an ankle sprain and is still not back to full strength. But after going back to practice on Tuesday, he’s reportedly picking up the pace. Given the Clippers’ impressive perimeter skills, his defensive presence would surely be appreciated, and it appears that he should be able to make a comeback.
Paul George, one of those perimeter players, will miss the Clippers’ next game for the second straight because of left knee pain. The Clippers will miss the All-Star’s presence both offensively and defensively, as he has excelled this season once again.
Whatever the case, the energy inside Crypto.com Arena will be palpable, as it usually is during a Lakers and Clippers game. The Lakers are in danger of falling in the standings and need a victory after losing two of their last three games since the All-Star break. The Clippers, meantime, are trying to reclaim their position as one of the top teams in the West after going back and forth in their last eight games.
LeBron James is prepared to “pick my spots” for the Lakers in difficult defensive situations.
On Sunday, LeBron James was occasionally asked to step up and defend Kevin Durant since starting defender Jarred Vanderbilt was sidelined and Cam Reddish was still healing from an ankle injury. LeBron is willing to take on some of the defensive workload that will probably come with the impending arrival of Kawhi Leonard.
James said, “I could pick my spots, for sure, when it comes to that,” in response to a question about accepting the task of defending other celebrities. “I am aware of my tendencies.
It is excessive to expect LeBron to fill that position on a regular basis when he already has so much on his plate offensively, but when called upon, LeBron can still play excellent defense at certain periods during the game.
