In the series, Hudson, an Oscar candidate and Golden Globe winner, will portray Isla Gordon.
Hollywood star Kate Hudson will play the lead role in a new comedy series on Netflix that is based on the true story of Los Angeles Lakers President Jeanie Buss.
The ten-episode series, which Mindy Kaling is producing, seems to be a fun look at ambition and family relationships in the male-dominated world of professional basketball.
“When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports,” reads the official description of the series.
The Mindy Project coworkers David Stassen and Ike Barinholtz, in addition to Kaling, will lead the project’s creative process.
As the showrunner, Stassen will supervise the creation of the 10-episode story.
Along with Hudson, the Los Angeles Lakers’ president Jeanie Buss, executive director Linda Rambis, and 3 Arts’ Howard Klein will executive produce. The show will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, Jordan Rambis, and Kaling, under the Kaling International name.
Hudson, an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner, will portray Isla Gordon. The creators have not yet disclosed any information on the supporting cast of the series.
