The post How Purdy sees himself fitting into the 49ers’ quest for a Super Bowl first aired on NBC Sports Bay Area.
Pressure makes diamonds.
All eyes will be on 24-year-old quarterback Brock Purdy as he attempts to lead the 49ers to their sixth Super Bowl triumph in his second postseason run during the 2024 NFL playoffs.
Purdy sees his vital role in the process and feels that San Francisco has the right players to return the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the Bay Area.
On the most recent episode of “49ers Talk,” which aired XX night, the second-year signal-caller gave an exclusive interview to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, detailing his role in the 49ers’ quest for a Super Bowl.
“We’ve got a great team, staff, ownership,” Purdy told Maiocco. “We have all the necessary components. How can I decide what’s best for me? How am I going to be combative? How can I guard the ball while being wise? That’s what I do. Being a point guard, I have to pass the ball to the appropriate players.”
Purdy recognizes the depth of talent in San Francisco, but he also knows the 49ers will probably only succeed as far as he can lead them.
The Iowa State product helped the 49ers finish the 2023 playoffs with a 2-1 record before suffering a torn UCL in his throwing elbow and losing to the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia. When Purdy was, San Francisco’s hopes of making the playoffs were dashed.
Nonetheless, Purdy has proven to be the “point guard” the 49ers require during his limited postseason play.
Purdy completed 41 of 63 pass attempts for 569 yards last year, good for three touchdowns and zero interceptions, over his three starts in the NFC playoffs.
In 16 games during the 2023 NFL season, Purdy completed 69.4% of his passes for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a few records. In addition, he added two on-field scores and fifteen first downs.
The 49ers will be well-positioned if Purdy performs anywhere close to how he did during the previous postseason or like the MVP contender he is this year.
Anticipate Purdy to demonstrate to the world what football was denied the last time around after his injury-shortened debut postseason run.
