To strengthen their bullpen after a stellar season, the Mets are linked to an elite reliever.

This offseason, the New York Mets have a lot of work ahead of them.

Although it hasn’t added any significant players, New York has already made a few moves this offseason. Luis Severino and Joey Wendle are two potential bounce-back contenders for the Mets, but there is still much work to be done.

Although several players have been connected to New York this offseason, free agency hasn’t gone as planned thus far. So far, it’s been incredibly slow, and it’s not apparent what the majority of teams are doing. The Mets are a great example of this. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the former ace of the Orix Buffaloes, was not signed by New York. It’s unclear what they’re going to do now.

According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, one player who has been linked to the Mets is one-time All-Star Matt Moore. The Mets need to strengthen their bullpen this winter.

“I don’t think Josh Hader fits their profile for this winter, with relievers such as Matt Moore or Aroldis Chapman more likely options,” McDaniel said. “Both Harrison Bader and Tommy Pham make sense for the outfielder spot depending on what kind of durability and defense they’re looking to add. None of these relievers or outfielders should require more than a two-year deal.”

Moore started his career as a starter pitcher but made a complete switch to the bullpen in 2022, and he has performed admirably ever since. In 63 games in 2022, he recorded a 1.95 ERA; in 50 games overall in 2023, he recorded a 2.56 ERA while playing for the Miami Marlins, Cleveland Guardians, and Los Angeles Angels.

Although the likelihood of a relocation is unknown, Moore may be considered by New York in the offseason.
