Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb addressed the situation after practice, explaining that the staff simply wants to manage Crowell’s workload early in the spring. With a long offseason program still ahead, the priority is making sure the freshman stays healthy and develops at the right pace. Limiting reps now could help ensure he’s fully ready when competition intensifies later in camp.
Crowell arrived in Tuscaloosa with significant expectations after an impressive high school career. The freshman is considered one of the more dynamic young playmakers in the program, and the coaching staff believes he has the potential to contribute sooner rather than later. Because of that, protecting his long-term development is a major focus during these early practices.
Grubb emphasized that the limited participation was not due to a major injury or setback.
