Two of the most iconic players in University of Alabama football history are giving back in a major way. Former All-Americans and longtime NFL stars Julio Jones and Mark Ingram II announced Wednesday the creation of the “Legends Fund,” a new initiative designed to support current and former Alabama student-athletes through education, wellness, and career-development resources.
The Legends Fund is rooted in gratitude for the program that helped shape both players into national champions and professional standouts. Jones and Ingram, who were teammates during Alabama’s dominant late-2000s run, said the fund aims to provide opportunities they wish had existed during their own college careers, particularly in areas of financial literacy, mental health support, and post-football planning.
“This place gave us everything,” Jones said in a joint statement. “The coaching, the discipline, the brotherhood — Alabama prepared us for life beyond football. The Legends Fund is about making sure the next generation is even more prepared, whether they make it to the NFL or not.” Ingram echoed those sentiments, calling the initiative “a long-term investment in people, not just players.”

The fund will work in partnership with the University of Alabama and its athletic department, with a focus on scholarships, emergency assistance grants, and mentorship programs. Organizers confirmed that former players facing financial hardship or career-transition challenges will also be eligible for support, reinforcing the idea that the Alabama football family extends far beyond graduation day.
Jones and Ingram both remain among the most celebrated figures in Crimson Tide history. Jones helped redefine Alabama’s passing attack en route to a national championship and a storied NFL career, while Ingram became the program’s first Heisman Trophy winner, setting a standard for elite running backs who followed. Together, their legacies symbolize a turning point that launched Alabama into a modern dynasty.
University officials praised the announcement, calling it a powerful example of leadership and responsibility from former student-athletes. “This is what legacy looks like,” one administrator said. “Julio and Mark are showing that greatness at Alabama isn’t just about what you do on Saturdays — it’s about how you lift others long after the cheers fade.”
The Legends Fund is expected to begin accepting applications later this year, with additional fundraising events planned in Tuscaloosa and beyond. For Jones and Ingram, the mission is clear: honor the past, empower the present, and protect the future of Alabama football — one legend at a time.
