The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is getting a twilight twist. Due to ongoing enhancements at Auburn’s iconic Jordan-Hare Stadium, officials have rescheduled the 2025 Iron Bowl kickoff between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers to ensure optimal playing conditions and a seamless fan experience. What was set as a traditional afternoon clash has shifted to an evening showdown, amplifying the drama under the lights at one of college football’s most electric venues.

This adjustment comes on the heels of Auburn Athletics’ multi-million-dollar investment in stadium infrastructure, rolled out progressively throughout the 2025 season. With the Nov. 29 matchup looming, final tweaks to lighting, videoboard integration, and field effects necessitated the change to avoid any disruptions during peak gameday operations. “We’re thrilled to showcase Jordan-Hare at its finest, but safety and quality come first,” said Auburn Senior Associate AD for Fan Experience Paris Buchannan. “This shift allows us to debut the full suite of upgrades without compromise.”
The No. 10 Crimson Tide (9-2, 6-1 SEC), riding high after a 56-0 rout of Eastern Illinois but stung by a 23-21 upset loss to Oklahoma, enter desperate for a win to punch their ticket to the SEC Championship and keep playoff dreams alive. Meanwhile, the Tigers (5-6, 1-6 SEC) under interim head coach D.J. Durkin are hungry for bowl eligibility and a signature spoiler, fresh off a 62-17 thrashing of Mercer. Alabama’s vaunted defense (#9 nationally in total yards allowed at 296.4 YPG) will face Auburn’s opportunistic offense, led by freshman QB Deuce Knight’s 239-yard, two-TD spark.
The Stadium Upgrades: Elevating the Plains
Auburn poured over $25 million into Jordan-Hare this year, transforming it into a state-of-the-art fortress of fan frenzy. Key features debuting or finalizing for late-season games include:
• North End Zone LED Videoboard: A massive Daktronics display, installed in spring 2025, rivals the south end zone’s 2015 behemoth—once college football’s largest. It delivers crystal-clear replays, stats, and hype videos to every seat, enhancing visibility across the 87,451-capacity stadium.
• Advanced Lighting and Laser System: Partnering with Musco Entertainment, Auburn integrated Show-Light® Pro for custom projections, lasers, and dynamic effects. Jordan-Hare becomes the first college stadium with laser-tech fused into field lighting, syncing with traditions like the War Eagle flyover for immersive spectacles. Funded by a private donor, it joins elite venues like Levi’s Stadium and Wembley.
• Multi-Use North End Zone Facility: Approved in February 2025, this HOK-designed project adds premium seating, concessions, retail, meeting rooms, and student spaces. Construction phases, including concrete frameworks for the videoboard, wrapped in summer but required late-season calibration to avoid glare or interference during play.
• Gameday Amenities: Over 20 enhancements, from pre-placed chairback rentals ($1,500 single-game options) to upgraded concessions and premium tailgating at nearby Plainsman Park, all aimed at elevating the “preeminent gameday experience.”
These upgrades debuted at the Sept. 6 Kickoff on the Plains (a 42-10 win over Ball State), but full integration—like laser-field syncing—demanded testing under varying light conditions. The Iron Bowl’s original afternoon slot risked shadows from the new videoboard or uncalibrated effects, prompting the SEC’s approval for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff—the first nighttime Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare since 2007.
